In 1938 inventor Andrew Howe founded Centrifugal &
Mechanical Industries (CMI), a division of Elgin
National Industries, Inc., in response to the need
for high quality and reliable dewatering equipment within
the coal preparation industry. Due to their superior
performance and cost effective operation, CMI machines
quickly became the manufacturer of choice within the
U.S. Coal Preparation Industry for drying equipment.

centrifuges and process equipment, Howe also understood
that exceptional customer
service would be essential. A network
of knowledgeable professionals was established who
would be available to address and resolve customer issues
and handle any “machine-down” situation.
Today CMI is known for being one of the most reliable
service organizations in the centrifuge and process
equipment industry. CMI’s staff of highly trained,
experienced and knowledgeable sales
and service engineers are familiar with the mechanics
of every CMI part and product, as well as the applications
that can be utilized during the dewatering process.
